This result was the perfect tonic to wipe away the disappointment of last weeks defeat to BKS.
With absentees and call up's to the first team 5 new players , 4 from the under 17's saw us field a very much new look side. The game started with Shenfield moving the ball around nicely and dominating possession. However as the game progressed we gradually found our feet and started to play some football ourselves. Although on the back foot chances were kept to a minimum whilst we ourselves created some very good opportunities and unlucky not to go into the first drink break in the lead.
Regrettably, as play resumed an unfortunate mistake at the back let them in for their opening goal. The lads kept their heads and continued to stick to their style of play and began to grow into the game. The two up top continued to create problems for the opposing backline until Finn Coss pulled up with a hamstring injury. With no other option the reserves were forced to send on the 50 year old debutant and a shape reshuffle, going to a 4 2 3 1 to hold out until the break. We were very much in the game but came in trailing 1-0 at half time.
The second half started brightly and you could see the confidence grow in the young lads. The system change helped by overloading the midfield in a 4321 and we quickly forced an early corner. A nice combination by the Nunn's saw a whipped in cross which was turned in by Bevan for his senior debut goal. 1-1. From here it was all Rams, with Sam Finlay taking centre stage. The opposition could not handle the runs Sam was making and was soon in on goal once more slotting home coolly to make it 2-1. A quick taken, inch perfect free kick from just inside our own half was taken down superbly by Sam who easily doubled his tally. Ronnie Reeves worked tirelessly on his own up top and with intelligent runs Sam found himself clear once more to get his hat-trick. Shenfield scored late on but a mere consolation as we came out deserved winners in a great performance.
Hats off to Ronnie, Ralph, Bevan and Ewan all of whom played their part in their senior debuts whilst Ali also impressed in midfield, But it was Sam Finlay who stole the show in a brilliant second half performance. A much needed confidence booster ahead of our league match next week.
