Perry Steals the show

Looking to reap revenge for last seasons defeat we travelled to League leaders Hutton in a confident mood following last weeks performance.

Fielding a young side with few playing out of position we started the brighter of the 2 teams. Sharp in the press the opposition were forced into several mistakes on the ball and limited space to offer any serious attack. Mason Perry was a constant threat and gave their left back a terrible time in the first half. Moving the ball quickly through the midfield and out wide, Mason found himself isolated against the full back and confidently ran towards the box. A blatant foul denied us an opening penalty however it wasn't long before we rebuilt and took a deserved lead. On the ascendancy, from a corner kick, Ethan whipped the ball into the near post which was met by a superbly timed run by Mason Perry to beat his defender and glance the ball into the far post.

Confidence was growing in the boys and by now we were in complete control of the game. Owen Rice had a superb solo effort denied by the post before Sam Finlay wriggled his way into the box with his legs clearly taken from under him only again for this to be denied by the referee. Even the opposition couldn't believe this one!! The league leaders were certainly fortunate to go into the break only 1-0 down.

With the wind against us we knew the second half would be a different story. The hosts came out aggressive and put us on the back foot. However the centre half pairing of Sam Nagle and Bevan Adams stood strong as did the midfield with many of the youngsters coming of age. The visitors were becoming increasingly frustrated, mainly due to the experience of captain Rich Georgio, especially when Rich had to tie his laces for the 5th time and had a "touch of cramp", preventing them from gaining any momentum and drawing a wry smile from the management team.

Despite their pressure where they hit the bar and had a disallowed goal for offside, the opposition met an inform Sonny Martin who when called upon pulled off a couple of outstanding saves denying them the break-through. This really was a backs to the wall team effort in the second half although we still managed to calve out a few chances of our own. Despite the second half pressure we came out deserved winners and a performance that showed a real togetherness by the lads.

All in all this has been a good start to the campaign and with the introduction of the young lads and the experience they are gaining can only be positive going forward. We travel to old foes Roydon next week in what will be another tough but close encounter.
